Calculating Odds: Poker is about statistical math. Here's a simple example: say you hold two spades, and there are two more spades on the flop. Your odds of making a flush are (9 / 47) + (9 / 46) which equals 38%. This is approximently 40% or 3:2 odds. That means your would get the fifth spade approximently twice for every five times you play the hand.
The exact odds are calculated based on the number of spades still left in the remaining unknow cards versus the total number of unknown cards remaining on both the turn and the river.
